I’m having a blast right now! I’m firing on all cylinders’ with training, work and family. Vacation to Italy is three days away!!
I’d like to talk about focus today. A few times in the past couple of weeks I had moments of being lax in focus. I truly believe that the principles of success must and can be applied to all facets of your life. I’ve heard the success principles referred to like gravity; the result is constant and not debatable. By this I mean, if you apply the correct action, you invariably get the desired result.
Last night I had a few moments to reflect. I like to spend time visualizing my finish line in life if you will with goals and to practice gratitude for all of the great things I have in my life like my family, friends, health, etc. I tend to be motivated and get better results when I can visualize things. My brain is wired that way I guess. Back to my focus or lack of once in a while. I realized that a few of my workouts I let other aspects of my life creep into my training and lost a little focus here and there. I realized that very much like my business life, preparation prior to any activity makes a world of difference in terms of the result. I need to prepare my bike, food, fluids and gadgets the night before along with specific goals for the training session.
Today I focused my training ride on keeping my pedaling rate (cadence) above the prescribed rate of 95 (RPM's) for a three hour period. What’s important as well, is to make sure other areas of technique are adhered to while focusing on this specific task. For example, there are lots of ways to keep that cadence of 95 RPM's high, but at what cost? Can I do I sitting in the aero position, even power, etc. Without focus and keeping top of mind my overall progress, it’s easy to have a mediocre workout. Today I was really excited to put in a three hour ride before 7AM with the focus I need. I truly believe that all behaviors that are positive have to be nurtured and practiced as if its race day!
Below are the seven decisions that I like as narrated by Andy Andrews:
1) The buck stops here, adversity is preparation for greatness
2) I will seek wisdom, I will choose my friends with care
3) I am a person of action, I can make a decision and I can make it now
4) I have a decided heart, My destiny is assured
5) Today I will choose to be happy, I am the possessor of a grateful heart
6) I will greet this day with a forgiving spirit, I will forgive myself
7) I will persist without exception, I will find a way where there is no way

Inspiring, Mark! I had no idea that my twin was so awesome and had so much depth. I'll be listening to the younger me more often.
With that said, I was reading Eccl chapter 3 last Sunday. . .did you know that Solomon said that it is man's lot to be happy in his activities? He did! I agree!
Mark's that's very interesting. Thanks for sharing!! I too agree
