Week 28, NOLA Here We Come
Just concluded in my opinion a great week of training! I topped out at a little over 23 hours for the week of some of the most intense, incredible training I’ve had.Hill Bounding, Bike BST’s, Tabata’s, EMH Swim sets and 18 mile runs. This week training calls for 12 hours which feels like I’m on vacation!! That’s simply not normal,I know.
The best gauge I can think of other than completing an actual end-to-end race is to see how my aerobic base is developing, is running off of the bike in the different heart-rate zones. On sat after an intense 5 hour bike ride, I transitioned into a 50 min run and had run paces from 7-7:30 with a 7:30 AVG with all of the run in Zone 1 (racing is more in Zone 2). On Sunday after a two-hour recovery ride I then completed a 2-hour Z1/Z2 run and my run pace was even lower on a course that had over 1100 feet of elevation. Usually, I’m junk on this run after such a hard preceding day! The bottom line is that there are some other gears there waiting to
come out and play..
NOLA and New Position
Bike Fit. My geometry for my bike was recently changed by Dean at FitWerx. Recently, Dean and I spent over 3 hours tinkering with my aero position. I’ve had some small issues with my left knee acting up and I decided to get custom foot beds made for my cycling shoes to nail down the angles of my hips, ankles and knees to gain comfort and power. If something is off in the slightest, 7 hour cycle rides all-out will let you know you are out of alignment. Dean felt that since last year I’m now a completely different rider, have increased power and over 20lbs lighter than my initial fitting and testing. Bottom line, improvement. Dean is such a huge resource on body position, etc. You should check them out!
I’ll be able to spend the next three weeks getting use to the new position which is far more aggressive and more aero. I will have my new P4 by the 23rd and will take over all measurements into this new bike and now know I’ll be racing with it in NOLA. Very exciting to have two amazing rides!!! I’ll be sure to post a picture here.
Cancer and What Motivates Me
I’m getting close to taping into my purpose for all of this, which is to raise awareness for the LAF Foundation. With my last 20 Weeks I’ll be able to spend more time discussing this and will be shaking the trees so to speak, to get the message out. Happy training and I would love to hear from you!
