OBITUARY: Daniel S. Williams


Yesterday I was reminded why I became invloved in endurance sports! To raise funds and awarness through my work for the Lance Armstrong Foundation.


As I came in the door last night Mary was vividly upset. I young boy Mary Student taught at Horance Mann lost his battle with cancer. He was only 16 and the age of our eldest. Below is his obituary.


Melrose -

Daniel S. “Danny” Williams, 16, a courageous young man from Melrose who battled osteosarcoma for two years, died October 25, 2008, at Children’s Hospital in Boston.

Danny was born in Malden on March 22, 1992. He had lived in Melrose, where he attended the Horace Mann School and the Melrose Middle School and was a member of the Melrose High School Class of 2010. Danny was a member of the Melrose High School golf team and the Melrose High School marching band. He volunteered his time with the Melrose High School junior varsity baseball team keeping score.

Danny was an avid Boston sports fan, especially of the Boston Red Sox, Celtics and Patriots. During his illness, he kept his spirits high while being active in many activities and fundraisers attributed to The Jimmy Fund.

Danny was the beloved and adored son of Stephen J. and Gail M. (Hegarty) Williams; brother of Brian J. Williams of Melrose; and grandson of Mildred Hegarty and the late Joseph Hegarty of Malden and Andrew and Mary Williams of Melrose.

He is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Wednesday, October, 29 3-8 p.m. in Carr Funeral Home, 1159 Main St., Melrose. His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, October 30, at 10 a.m. in the Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield. Burial will be in Wyoming Cemetery.
